Healthy Listening: Mind, Body and Soul

Should living in the modern world come with a health warning? We have a lot to contend with these days. Don’t get us wrong - the modern world is incredible and we’re lucky to be living through a modern renaissance of technology and entertainment. However, whether it’s stress, diet or being generally overwhelmed, life today can take its toll. Now, more than ever, it’s important to practice self-care, so for World Health Day we’ve compiled a list of our favourite health and wellbeing podcasts.

For your physical health: Found My Fitness

Looking after your physical health can be overwhelming. Sometimes it’s hard to know where to begin. Luckily, American Biomedical Scientist Dr Rhonda Patrick is here with her extensive background in physical health to explain nutrition, ageing and disease prevention through her thoroughly informative weekly podcast – Found My Fitness. Not to worry if you’ve yet to achieve your medical degree, Dr Rhonda lays everything out in plain and simple English.

For your mental health: The Hilarious World of Depression

As we’ve all learned and understood more about mental health over the last few years, the stigma surrounding it has lessened as people have begun to talk more. Of all the people talking, American writer and radio personality John Moe is one of the loudest. His show hosts a slew of top comedic guests discussing their own personal history with mental health through a series of open, moving and hilarious conversations. Depression is serious and shouldn’t be taken lightly, but using a platform where people can discuss their own experiences with a few laughs can make the disease a lot less scary.

For your relationships: Modern Love

Rome wasn’t built in a day and neither are relationships, so join journalist Meghna Chakrabarti as she hosts NPR’s Modern Love podcast, based on the popular New York Times column. Modern Love shares the joys of romance and the pain of love though weekly essays performed by top guest actors, with episodes featuring Uma Thurman, Jake Gyllenhaal and Zoe Saldana. The essays are followed up with updates from the authors themselves, accompanied by some genuinely beneficial advice. While this is no replacement for couples therapy, Modern Love could help you feel a little less stranded.
